[D1, EM] It's Miso, but not Your Miso (Open)

[Shosuro Hikimasu]

A pair of red clad samurai walked to the mess tent that morning for breakfast before it was packed up and closed. Hikimasu walked alongside Kheree. He's suppose she could walk behind him, or some silly thing like that, but as she was as tall as him he didn't want to be the guy obviously compensating for something.

He offered her a seat first, then went to get in line and procure breakfast for them both. He wanted to enjoy the morning without feeling like he had to hurry, and that meant rice, miso, and a bit of fish from the same pot as everyone else. He balanced the dishes on his arms, avoided a stampeding Lion who thought the radishes were in danger of being gone before they had a chance for a helping and then placed all the items on the table for himself and Kheree.

Settling down, he withdrew his chopsticks from his sleeve, lowered his mask and gave a small prayer of thanks before digging in. A sup of the miso soup told the tale.

Not terrible, but not preferred.

It was more food than he was accustomed to, so Usagi Kaigen, a sprig of grass clenched in his teeth kept the bowl held out for a little extra soup, a little extra fish, you name it.

Then he propped himself up in a likely corner and started digging in with a minimum of preamble and no fuss whatsoever about radish, bok choi, or anything else so nuanced.

Kheree resisted a yawn as she sat down, a great black bird resting on her shoulder before it hopped down onto the table and tried to steal something from her Husband.
She was a bit occupied with adjusting her mask, and then gave out a commanding "tsk" that made the bird back off after a moment while she offered a prayer as thanks for the food.
"Onwards to the first day of this " she said as she raised a bit of fish into the air, before she occupied herself with it.

Hikimasu paused a bit before digging in, seeing Kheree's chopsticks take a bit of fish from his plate. He didn't frown, he smiled very slightly.

"With any luck we'll actually leave a day behind schedule", he said and sipped his miso. As everyone knew, a day behind schedule in military was still early.

The Shosuro took note of the Hare sitting nearby, only because he wondered how much food the man would cram into his underfed frame.

He appeared to be demolishing his entire outsized portion in a kind of intense silence- he wasn't oblivious to his surroundings as such, but he was certainly... focused.

His mouth quirked slightly at Khar bothering the Hare.

"Apologies, Usagi-san", he said to Kaigen. "I'm sorry to say company is provided with the meal."

"Perhaps it might be best if I were to apologize to the bird... after all, it's getting no meal at all and very poor company."

She nods " We are still counting as newlywed so it might have been that this influenced the decision to send us onto this , and as I am bringing with me teachings that are not as familar to my Husbands clan , compared to the one from which I hailed. " she makes a cawing noise and Khar flutters piquetted but does not yet move.

"While that might be true, legion command has seen fit to put us in two different kaisha", Hikimasu explained. "So I am certain there will be moments of waiting and uncertainty still."

"Probably just trying to remind you of the great rule of armies everywhere when it comes to soldiers and organization... it isn't set up for our personal benefit."

[Shosuro Hikimasu]

"Oh, I doubt anyone has the organization finesse to have done it on purpose",the Shosuro said. "Though just as well, no one who could.fix it would bother."

"Even so our tent was placed weirdly at a corner because of that so that it would border both , small upsides and weirdnesses it seems ..."

"Indeed so, I'm certain we'll make do", he smiled and ate more fish. After chewing he regarded the Hare again.

"Probably just trying to remind you of the great rule of armies everywhere when it comes to soldiers and organization... it isn't set up for our personal benefit."

"Tell me, Usagi-san, what deed brought you this auspicious assignment? I doubt it was the usual nepotism of the celestial order."

"I believe it had everything to do with my grace and polish. And possibly the time I went three days without sleep to deliver a message. That was... unpleasant, of course, but nobody asked me to like it."
