[Kitsuki Edogawa]

"Having a diverse assortment can be a good thing." he said. "It makes us versatile."

[Daidoji Kumiko]

Kumiko nods in agreement with the Kitsuki's words.

"How are you trained, Kitsuki-san?" she asks. "And that question might well be put to the others here, as well. Versatility helps, but knowing comrades' capabilities helps more."

[Daidoji Nobu]

A fairly enormous Crane legionnaire, both tall and wide, approached. He was in camp clothing, and wore the topknot and daisho of the samurai class.

"Ho, what is this?" the big Crane inquired in a jovial voice. "A camp party? Mind if I join in?"

"I'm called Daidoji Nobu," he added, tapping his chest with one thumb.

[Daidoji Kumiko]

Kumiko blinks.

"The wrestler, correct?" she asks. "Grandson of an ogre-slayer, if so."

She pauses, then adds "You will bear watching."

[Kitsuki Edogawa]

"Diplomacy and investigation." he answered after Nobu's introduction. "In training to serve as a magistrate."

[Doji Hametsu]

"A refreshingly traditional career path for a legionnaire, Kitsuki-san. I hope that the legion is as much a service for you as it was for those of previous centuries."

[Kasuga Yoshi]

Yoshi takes a moment to respond, surprised by the question.

When was the last time an outsider asked a Tortoise that?

"I'm a courtier by training, though a specialized one. I don't know if any of you have deigned to visit Slow Tide Harbor but it has effectively two things going for it: that it's a port with very low fees and it's close to Otosan Uchi. The town would quite possibly literally starve without trade. So that's what we do: by hook and by crook we deal to get what we need to survive and thrive." Yoshi extends an arm and bows to the group. "Logistics Officer Kasuga Yoshi, at your service."

He rises and rummages through his kimono for his pipe and starts to stuff it with fine tobacco.

"Which is how we got the spread over there. Now please dig in before I gain a reputation as a lush. Unless you'd like to refuse a gift..."

[Doji Hametsu]

"Kasuga-san has been most generous with his acquisitions," Hametsu ventured, gesturing for others to partake, though not exactly quick to reach for anything himself. "I am Doji Hametsu," he continued for the benefit of the newcomers, "I was trained at Tsuma in the techniques of the House of Doji, but have served first the Crane clan and now the legion in a military capacity since my gempukku. I have been adjutant to this kaisha for about 1 year."

[Hida Masayuki]

Late to the gathering, the Crab gunso hovers outside the tent. Hesitating to enter, he paces slowly outside.

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"It seems more are filtering in," Kumiko says.

She takes a cup, raises an eyebrow.

"Perhaps they might be admitted, as well."

[Kitsuki Edogawa]

"That is my hope, Doji-sama." He nodded as he poured himself a cup. "To serve and to learn."

"May a pour a cup for anyone else?" He asked looking about. His glance settled on the Crab outside, implying that he was included when the question was asked.

[Hida Masayuki]

Masayuki is honored by the kind Kitsuki and enters the tent. He bows deeply to Daidoji Kumiko and more openly to the others. "This one is Hida Masayuki reporting. Kasuga-san, you have outdone yourself. It seems we will be well-cared for with your amazing skills."
He accepts the cup offered by Kitsuke-san and observes those around him more than he could do from outside the tent.
Daidoji-sama seems shrewd and aware, with manners, yet no nonsense. This is promising.

[Kasuga Yoshi]

Masayuki is honored by the kind Kitsuki and enters the tent. He bows deeply to Daidoji Kumiko and more openly to the others. "This one is Hida Masayuki reporting. Kasuga-san, you have outdone yourself. It seems we will be well-cared for with your amazing skills."
He accepts the cup offered by Kitsuke-san and observes those around him more than he could do from outside the tent.
Daidoji-sama seems shrewd and aware, with manners, yet no nonsense. This is promising.

"That's the plan" Yoshi raises his cup. "I would say that we are beginning to pick up. Please let any officers lurking outside that they are welcome. And can get get a cheer for Daidoji-chui, who seems intent on letting us bring our best, and may we be cursed if we fail her!"

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"To the Fourth," says Kumiko, simply.

[Doji Hametsu]

On his commanding officer's heels, Hametsu parroted her toast like only a professional subordinate can.

"To the Fourth."

[Kitsuki Edogawa]

"To the Fourth." Edogawa joined in.

[Daidoji Nobu]

"The wrestler, correct?" she asks. "Grandson of an ogre-slayer, if so."

"Yes, that's right," Nobu said, bowing respectfully to the commanding officer. "I hope to equal my grandfather's deeds, someday."

"To the Fourth," says Kumiko, simply.

"To the Fourth!" Nobu echoed, raising a cup as well. "Kampai!" The big Crane tossed the sake down his throat in a single gulp.

"To the fourth!" It wasn't quite the toast he had proposed but he was too far along now. Yoshi spends the time serving and hob-nobbing, making people feel welcome.

"To the Fourth!" Masayuki joined with some enthusiasm.

[Daidoji Kumiko]

Kumiko nods, having drunk her drink.

It would be rude not to have done so, of course, and that would not be advisable.

But it would also not be advisable to drink to one's self. That kind of arrogance invites rebuke from the Heavens, after all.

The gesture was nice, though.

"So, how Doji-fukkan, Kasuga-san, and Daidoji-kohai are trained, I know. Kituski-san, as well. Hida-san might comment on his training."
