As in transit, a temporary space that is picked up in full in the early hours of the morning, transported, and transplanted miles down the road in the exact same order in the evening. Patrols ring the edge keeping eyes out for any potentially unfriendly elements. As one goes deeper into the camp they'll go past scouting tents, sleeping tents, an area for feeding the troops and at it's heart, the command area. Information flows into command and orders flow out.

Best not to let the troops get too comfortable with the locals, since they'll be moving on soon enough.
