[Doji Hametsu]

The action having died down, Hametsu took a moment to take stock of what had happened, then buttonholed Agasha Daikumo. The Chui ought to be made aware of such a powerful, if raw, samurai. And if Kumiko understood that Hametsu had an eye for potential, then surely that would figure in the calculations surrounding his future promotion. That was very much to be desired.

"Agasha-san," he began, "what would you say to joining me in making a report of this engagement to the Chui?"

Kumiko can be found easily. She is receiving reports from others as she attends to her weapons and armor, hands moving with a competency that bespeaks long familiarity with the tasks.

[Agasha Daikumo]

Daikumo looks up to Hametsu from where he was working on maintenance for his yari. "Sure thing," he says with a nod. "I can give my account of the battle if you need." He tucks the tools into their bag and rises to his full height and slings the yari over his shoulder and indicates he's ready to follow.

[Doji Hametsu]

Hametsu led Daikumo to Kumiko's station, where he bowed deeply. "Daidoji-chui, some moments ago the supply train was attacked by a troop of bandits. Elements of the legion, responding rapidly, were able to drive the bandits off with minimal loss to supplies and a few minor injuries. Several bandits have been captured and await interrogation. This man," he gestured to Agasha Daikumo, "Agasha Daikumo of our kaisha, acquitted himself superlatively, striking a truly mighty blow that, I suspect, represents a skill that will come in useful in the near future. I thought it would be in both your and his interest that you should have the opportunity to debrief him personally."

Kumiko looks up, nods. "Doji-fukkan does well," she says. "Agasha-san is invited to report. First, if he is injured, please note it."

"Daidoji-chui," Daikumo says offering a bow to the commander of the 4th. "I went uninjured in the battle. The bandit I fought off seemed more interested in fleeing than putting any real effort into fighting. I was near the supply tent of tonight's camp, taking stock of our materials in line with one of my duties as a smith, ensuring tools and supplies were not lost or damaged in transit. During that task I noted a man in common clothing that did not bear the insignia of the legion approach the supplies and grab a small pack. I gave chase immediately and caught up to him. At this point I noted that this was a larger effort on the part of a group of bandits as I saw others fighting off bandits as well, including an Utaku that was using tactics against his opponent, enabling me to get a better angle on the bandit I confronted. The bandit took a few wild and inaccurate swings in my direction before I was able to apply Bishamon's blessing to him using my yari. The wound I left him with will take some time and effort for him to recover from, but I chose to hold the line and support others I saw fighting rather than give chase." After his report Daikumo bows once more to signify he is finished with his initial report and waits for any questions. He's not a military man by trade so he doesn't really know if his report had everything in it the Chui needed.

Kumiko nods.

"A respectable effort was made," she says. "The more so for what paperwork suggests is an action early in the career."

She looks up at him intently.

"Is it assumed that the Utaku is not from this kaisha?" she asks. "Additionally, was noted made of what materiel was lost, how many were taken, how many were slain, and how many casualties the kaisha and Legion sustained?"

Her eyes cut over to Hametsu. "Others might also answer, if they know."

[Doji Hametsu]

Hametsu bowed. "Hai, initial Legion reports have 3 bandits captured, at least 6 driven away, and 2 units of material lost, though there is some confusion on this last point. I can confirm that at least some of the bandits were familiar with the reputations of individual members of the legion, though the one that fled when I identified myself was not known to me by sight. Of the members of the kaisha, I am given to understand that Hida Yoshiko was superficially injured. The bandits did not display a particular style of combat, and, as Agasha-san has reported, seemed more eager to abscond, once detected, than to materially disrupt the legion."

He cleared his throat. "Utaku Mukai is of the 2nd kaisha."

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"It sounds like a badly thought-out opportunistic attack, then," Kumiko says. "Perhaps some thought that the Forty-Second is composed solely of political appointments or people being put out of the way."

She smiles tightly. "How unfortunate for them to have been wrong."

Kumiko looks at Hametsu again. "Any other casualties known? Is Doji-fukkan injured?"

[Doji Hametsu]

"The bandit I saw off was not very skilled. He overshot me by some 10 meters. I believe some members of other kaisha also received superficial injuries. From what I saw, it only made them angry."

[Daidoji Kumiko]

Another tight smile.

"One imagines they were not well-liked when angry," she says.

[Doji Hametsu]

"Usagi Kaigen of the 2nd kaisha is particularly formidable in such a state. But of them all, Agasha-san certainly struck the hardest." A beat. "And he did not lose control to do so."

[Agasha Daikumo]

Daikumo doesn't seem to puff up or be proud of his performance. He simply stands with stoic attention to the conversation, waiting to see if there are any other questions asked of him.

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"Commendable," Kumiko says. "Both of you."

[Doji Hametsu]

Hametsu snapped into a deep bow acknowledging the Chui's commendation.

[Agasha Daikumo]

Daikumo doesn't snap to attention, but he makes his way to that position. He bows respectfully in thanks for the commendation.

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"Agasha-san's skills are likely in demand from the kaisha," Kumiko says, "and Doji-fukkan's will also find use."

She gives them a nod.

"Anything else needing to be reported would do well to be said now."
