Mind the Maps (D5, EM)

[Utaku Mukai]

After her previous dismal attempt at improving her tactical knowledge Mukai had focused instead on her strengths. After the bandit attack, however, she once more decided it was time to shore up her weaknesses.

Thankfully this time she has a modicum of success.

Daidoji Nobu reviewed the maps carefully. According to the maps, the terrain would get rougher and more hilly as the Legion crossed into the Crab lands, and there would be more chances for bandits to harry their supply lines.

Thankfully this time she has a modicum of success.

"Looks like some difficult ground across the river, Utaku-sama, don't you agree?" the big Crane ventured as he saw the Unicorn looking at the maps as well.

Mukai nods, "The benefit of serving the Empire and moving to aid a clan is that roads will let us bypass the worst of it. But it will still be slower going once we hit them even then."

Mukai nods, "That's right, I ride with the Second." She looks over the map again, "The road will almost certainly be best, we're more scouting for dangers, but if the path were to be obstructed I would certainly find a new way."

"Hopefully it won't come to that, but I am reassured that your squadron will be on the lookout for us," Nobu said, nodding. "Have you gotten to see anything interesting so far, riding ahead? I'm just a foot slogger, so mostly I've only gotten to see the backside of the man in front of me."
