[D5 MM] Taking Stock (4th Kaisha)

[Kasuga Yoshi]

In the wake of the events of last night, Yoshi had taken some time to get some rest, clean himself up and perform an inventory. He wasn't blind to the Doji and Agasha running in to report, but in his mind it made sense to be sure before he presented.

He waits with his notes, attempting to catch Daidoji-chui.

Nobody has thrown Kumiko, outside of jiujutsu practices, for a long time, but Yoshi is still able to catch her easily enough as she strides through the camp.

She gives a nod to the Tortoise, a tacit invitation to follow and speak.

Yoshi takes the gesture and falls in behind his superior. "Good morning Daidoji-chui. I have completed the inventory of our supplies following the bandit attack. The 4th Kaisha's supplies were unaffected. Conversing with other logistics officers they've indicated that losses were light as a whole and their loss might be worth blooding some of the troops, but a gesture to share ours may be appreciated."

He pauses, allowing for a beat

"Alternately we could attempt to barter for favors. It may be gauche to attempt to attempt such a thing, and beneath your dignity. Fortunately, your logistics officer is designated for such distinction, should you choose."

He is curious if that gets a smile. "Injuries are mild with no expected lingering loss to combat capacity. Hida Yoshiko was slightly jarred but otherwise performed dutifully. She may appreciate a supportive word from her commanding officer. "

"Other than that, if there anything you wish me to acquire while we are stopping over at this village? I imagine that fresh rations would be appreciated but if there is anything specific you envision I will make extra effort."

Kumiko nods.

"Fresh rations would be decidedly welcome," she says. "And it might be that Hida Yoshiko receives a favored meal.

"As far as other kaisha, the Fourth is happy to assist comrades in arms. That said, it is expected that those comrades be similarly happy to assist the Fourth as needed. Perhaps logistics might have insights into what assistance is advisable." There is a slight smile at that.

"But it should also be the case that officers take the opportunity to refresh themselves when they can once those under their command are seen to. Other opportunities may not arise."

She stops and looks at Yoshi.

"Is a logistician familiar with Museru Mura?"

Just when I think that she's upright she reminds me that she has more underneath no matter what face she shows.

"I'll see to it that those rations make their way to cook fire for evening meal" Yoshi thinks for a moment "and a filling but easy to digest morning meal for tomorrow, if we are to resume the march. I am sure such a meal would be something anyone lacking would be grateful for. I'll ensure Yoshiko-san gets a little something special as well "

Yoshi thinks on the other parts as well.

"Coastal logisticians are at a disadvantage at knowing ports of call this far inland. Temporarily of course. A savvy one will see to bridging that ignorance as soon as possible, perhaps when the officer manages downtime after the others are seen to."

He pauses a bit. "With respect Chui, your logic as to officers taking time to refresh themselves is sound. I would then be neglectful, as your logistician, if I did not inquire as to when you yourself have had the opportunity. "

Kumiko smiles more openly.

"Kasuga-san is kind," she says. "The shireikan has made some recommendations for places in the village. Evidently, his travels have taken him this way before. The rikugunshokan, as well.

"The local bathhouse will receive a visit, to be certain."

"That..." Yoshi consults his usual list of a good time and compares it to the last few weeks. "Actually sounds like the perfect way to relax after all the time on the road. I defer to your superior reconnaissance. I hadn't even heard a whisper of a bath house."

Kumiko gives a single puff of what might be a laugh.

"It's a matter of knowing what questions to ask, and whom to ask them. Nothing more," she says. But she is grinning as she says it.

"Well, it would be useful to know what questions to ask." Yoshi pauses, delighted to see a grin and allowing his eyes to crinkle.

"In an unrelated tangent, with the confusion brought my the festival a hypothetical samurai could slip away for a few hoursinto the streets and be utterly unremarked upon, especially if aided by other samurai who similarly could not bring attention to it without their own presence being known. Especially during the hours of the Rooster, Dog and Boar. Shall I make preparations for that possibility?"

It looks that message got lost.

"I don't intend to, nor do I blame the arrow." Yoshi continues amicably. "Stopping that seems an exercise in futility. Just, ah, making sure that every archer who wishes reaches the firing line, is well stocked and not overdrawn" He pauses. "Any and all interested."

Kumiko's gaze relaxes slightly.

"It would seem an archery contest would be better for after a long walk is done," she says. "Too much concern for where shafts would land makes for poor footing, and no judge wants to see a competitor stumble."

"Likely a sound judgement." Yoshi concedes. "It would be necessary for a poor logistician to practice his aim to keep up. A single well placed shot on the right target seems a worthier endeavor than firing blind."

"And" his town becomes dry "it would likely be poor aim following the amount of sake and dice rumor says will be on hand." He lightly coughs once more.

"I will see to the supply rotation. Any ashigaru who are taken on will get Legion issue equipment and I will see to Doji-san about any onboarding process to help bring them up to speed. I will speak to the camp followers to ensure meals are readied to win a few men back to camp early and offer remedy to those out late. From what I understand most of our officer corps has plans for their own rest and recovery."

"Is there anything else you'd like me to see to on your behalf?"

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"Whoso trusts to the Fortunes cannot go astray," Kumiko says, "though the winds might blow them about before they land."

There's that grin again.

"A logistician and an adjutant, both of whom seem to be doing much, should perhaps ensure that their evening meal is ascribed to their chui."

[Kasuga Yoshi]

Yoshi bows. "It would be my pleasure. Shall I make arrangements in town tonight, or will your prior commitments keep you occupied?"

[Daidoji Kumiko]

"The Legion is at liberty until muster call tomorrow," Kumiko replies. "Many will doubtlessly still bivouac in their tents, though after baths and hot meals."

[Kasuga Yoshi]

Read, "You do not need to worry about me in your planning". Alright then.

Yoshi bows "I would be poor at my duty if I didn't make the most of the resources offered. I will see to the matters at hand. By your leave?"

Yoshi has a busy schedule ahead, never mind the actual festival: supplies to be bartered for favors, drawing from the discretionary funds to get new supplies, calling in favors to set the cooking schedule with food set to ease hangovers and plan to use that to get MORE favors.

It not glamorous work. It might have more attention grabbing to brain another bandit with a club, but it undoubtedly helps keep the legion moving in ways most would forget about. And he hears a rumor while he's at it!
