Utaku Mukai - Emphasis on the Mukai (Mukai Q&A)

The usual refrain of real life draining most of the opportunity I had to truly get involved with the game outside of events but I had a blast playing and thanks to those I did get to be social with.
Mukai will likely reprise but she's also not the secrets type so ask away.

If Mukai had her pick of next posting, where would she want to go?

Wherever is narratively convenient for the next game, of course!
But, more seriously, anything that keeps her away from home and gives her a chance for glory. She's not picky.

What did you like most about the game narratively? What did you like least about the game narratively?
What did you like most about the game mechanically? What did you like least about the game mechanically?
What would you really like to see in the next game that wasn't in this game?
Your participation when rl no oni let you see us was grand, thank you

It's funny that in a way they're both the same thing. It was a solid, straightforward story. Which gave it a strong throughline but meant there didn't feel like much 'side content' to explore. Although I'll fully admit that was also likely partly my limited time preventing me from poking and prodding the NPCs much. Since I assume most 'non obvious' stories were person based as opposed to place based given the structure of the game.

No major complaints I found most of it worked very well and made sense. I can tell the final fight didn't go down how the GMs expected it to so there's likely work to be done there but that's not a complaint so much as an acknowledgement. Similarly the 'group beatdown to get from incapacitated to dead' is always an awkward point in 5E rules. It's great for players, when they're the targets, to give them a chance to survive (if grievously injured) but less great when it's a solo enemy where you know it's inevitable but still need to make multiple attempts to get it to happen.

I think the next big stress test would be a more free form game but I could see wanting a few smaller ones still before that. So maybe a more mystery/investigative game since that's not one we've really thrown 5e at yet.

Beware the DREADED FORM QUESTIONS!
1. Biggest curveball Mukai threw you?
2. Biggest curveball the game threw you?
3. Biggest Missed Opportunity?

No big curveballs this time around. She was a pretty straightforward character and didn't encounter much that would push her outside her initial concept. If I had more of a chance to interact and be social maybe something would have come up but as is she pretty much played as was written on the tin.
2. Biggest curveball the game threw you?
Sakkaku continuing its apparent deep love for me (in 5e only). Not as egregiously as it did with Bo, there were a few missed rolls, but I pulled off a lot of very strong rolls even in areas Mukai was weak at.
3. Biggest Missed Opportunity?
Just getting to play more. I probably only managed a half dozen non event threads that had any substance.

I will say I initially expected Mukai to be more of a support character in battle. She has a lot of kata and I never even used one of them. As soon as she enters battle it's all explosions no opportunities.

Tagging in here rather than trying to repeat and add on in my own Q&A because the busy plus less obvious stories illustrates the point. Folks have a lot of ooc attention-grabbing things these days. Particularly with a short game, I find that plot hooks end up needing to be more obvious and often dropped directly into laps (they *still* won't always be followed up on, but at least they're not missed).
Beyond that, sorry I didn't end up interacting with Mukai. I think she leaves as the character making the largest contribution overall (from events) despite your time constraints, so she's definitely made a mark.

I feel you on the lack of time and interaction and, yeah, Sakkaku continues to love me in 5e events. Eventually it will turn on me, I know this to be true, but not yet it seems.
