As the legion nears its destination, Hida Masayuki takes in the sights, sounds and smells of his homeland, and memories come flooding back to him. It's been three years since he was last here, and his excitement is mounting.
Allowing himself a short daydream, Masayuki returns to himself and looks around at his unit. He sees some looking uncomfortable and moves their way. He speaks not until there is a pause in their conversation and a young legionnaire asks what they can expect. Masayuki speaks low but with earnestness.
"Well, we had some taste of that last night and we acquitted ourselves well. It is true the loss of one known to you is never easy...As we near you will hear more noise and have the opportunity to see the great engineering feats of the Kaui. It is important to stay focused, to fight the temptations that come, even though they may seem sweet. Those who know what they are doing will assess our readiness.
"While there will be times for us to relax, have games, and socialize, first impressions will go a long way. Yet, take advantage of any down time to be limber, relaxed, and rested; but, always be prepared when starting downtime lest anything arise that needs attention.
"Show respect for those whose entire lives are spent in this duty and learn what you can from them. The time for delicate discussion will never go away, but not all conversations will be delicate there. This is the gift we receive to ensure we are prepared.
"We will work together and in that, we have the chance at victory in what matters most."
Listeners are mixed, with some feeling more at ease and others still nervous. Masayuki adds, "Whether this is your first, fifth or twentieth battle, you will gain good experience here and you are where you belong. Have faith and courage in your duty for Rokugan."
