Last night was lost. He filled his cup.

Praised be Bishamon - no - kami.

Same as the previous day. He refilled.

Praised be Bishamon - no - kami.

That was nothing unexpected. That was normal. He refilled.

Praised be Bishamon - no - kami.

He probably lost the clan meeting. He refilled.

I suppose I will throw a party today and act as if I was there.

Praised be Bishamon - no - kami.

He closed his eyes and tried to get up. He still could so he sat on his feet again and refilled his cup.

"Praised be Bishamon - no - kami.

Grandad, what am I doing here?"

As the Yogo offered his prayers to Bishamon, he gradualy became aware of a faint, rhymtic noise. As he continued his prayers, the noise became louder and more clear, it was the chiming of tiny bells.

Before long there was a ghostly apparation coming through his tent. At first the Yogo might take it as a ghost, the white skin, the large grin, but as his eyes adjusted to the light, he could see it was (probably) not a ghost, it was a Scorpion.

"Yoooooogo-san. There you are." the Scorpion said with abundant good cheer. "So sorry to interrupt your ritual of courage gathering, but I have something for youuuuuu."

He bowed.

"Apologies for failing to spot you earlier. My grandfather occasionally becomes insistent for my attention." He rose and stepped away from the small shrine.

"Please continue, goryo-sama."

The Yogo was given a theatrical bow, and then the Shosuro swept into the Yogo's tent, whereupon he wasted no time making himself comfortable.

"I beeeeeeelieve, you were looking for this." he said, fishing a small charm in the shape of a chicken upon a chain from his sleeves.

The Yogo would, of course, recognize the charm. His sensei would entrust....unique charms with their messengers to make sure Adoka knew whom was about to give him orders. The charms were generally ugly things, and quite often insulting.....so to prevent their accidentally be mistaken for gifts...so his sensei said. Some of the other students whispered that it just amused his sensei to send the ugly things into the world...and send them charms. This particularly ugly chicken was the one that Adoka was expecting for the time being, which was perhaps better than last month's which some of the students had named 'Doji's extended middle finger.' The proceedure was to accept the charm as lost property belonging to Adoka and then ask after the whreabouts of a non-existant person. Akodo Doka, this time, whrereupon the relevant orders would be given.

"Indeed, it appears that I misplaced that somehow." Adoka responded and made an even more theatrical bow than the Shosuro.

"Surely you will allow me to offer some kind of compensation for the time you spent taking care of my favourite chicken." He added and made his way to the sake bottle he had on the small desk, where he liked reading, when alone.

"Will you join me?" He asked the goryo.

"But of couuuuuurse." said the Shosuro.

The was a faint jingle of bells as he produced a sake cup from his sleeves. There was a broken adornment upon the cup. Those particularly familiar with their bugs would have noted it to be a dragonfly, but all of the wings had been broken off, leaving it nearly remsembling a worm.

"It is only riiiight to bolster one courage in preparation of baaaatle." he said with a large smile. "Given the foeeee before us, it will take a lot of courage indeeeeed."

It was one of those times that Adoka knew that, his otherwise dead eyes were rolling under his mask.

What makes him think that he is before us and not behind us?

He is unworthy of your time, same as your sensei. You must focus on finding my skull!

Sure granddad. I know. He shipped.

"It shouldn't affect your capacity." He informed the Shosuro. "Unless of course, you wish that it will affect it." He added as he refilled his cup.

"How fares our mutual friend? Has he marched west?"

Fuwanan's grin never faltered, even in the slightest.

"Oh of couuuuurse not Yogo-san. It wouldn't do to be relieved of command so eaaaarly in the campaign."

He tilted his head slightly.

"My but we have sooooo many mutual friends, Yogo-san. Whomever dooooo you mean?" he asked.

The Yogo might consider the man before him an utter fool....but he was not so foolish as to deliver the message without the proper passcode.

He smiled. Most of his sensei's students hated the way he chose to communicate his wishes when they were outside the range of his voice. Adoka actually enjoyed it. He had even started a special ranking system on how much fun each messenger was.

"We do? I thought it was only Lord Akodo Doka." He responded with the password.

This messenger was definitely 4 bakeneko levels of fun.

The Shosuro's smile didn't falter.

"Ah of cooooourse, how foolish of me." he offered. "Our friend was deeeeeeply worried about the safety of one Otosanuchi no Karen. But being the proud woman she is, our friend would not wish to insult her with obvious protection. Sooooooo, if there was some way to protect and observe her without her notice, our friend would be sooooo very happy."

Otosanuchi no Karen? Who was that?

"I have too many questions, that you can't probably answer, so your job is done, can you now stop invading my personal space and leave my tent?" He asked as politely as that question can be posed.

He didn't bother to wait for the messenger to leave to get up, search his pouch of herbs for some Soshi Red tea. As the water boiled he brought his journal and a jar of honey.

Once he took the first sip he started writing on his journal:

"D1.

I have successfully infiltrated the camp. I have received a chicken charm worth 5 levels of bakenoko. I still need to find some tanuki and a tortoise. I lost yesterday."
