[D1, MM] The Dragon (I Mean Mantis!) Lady

Yoshi was a bit unsure about who quite winds up as a Logistics Officer. It didn't seem that a ton of people had wanted the job on a low ranking officer (either that or they were eager to be rid of him), but here he was, now an officer in good standing for a Legion! And it was time to show off what he could do.

He was dressed for work, but nicely, the compromise that Tortoise often lived with. It would do well to make a good impression, encourage those whispers of his ability to rub two koku together and produce a third.

He enters the tent and bows. "Kasuga Yoshi, assigned as Logistics Officer for the 4th Kaisha, at your service. Please watch over me." He begins to peek up, feeling his heart leap and then fall at the green in front of him. Mantis. Of course. It had to be Mantis.

Karen was dressed quite richly, in fact. Her style seemed to lean towards the flashy, rather than the strictly practical. Were things different, perhaps the two could have bonded over their similar tastes. However, when he peeked up, the expression on Karen's face was normally reserved for bugs...and not the friendly one for fellow Mantis.

"Ah, Kasuga Oshi." she said with a shallow bow. "So good of you to finally make it here. I thought you might have missed the boat, or perhaps been waylaid by pirates."

Karen had apparently decided that Yoshi was supposed to be here earlier...not that anyone had told Yoshi that. Or perhaps there really was a Kasuga Oshi out there somewhere missing appointments in his name....but probably not.

You'd know a thing or two about pirates wouldn't you.

The thought flashes darkly but Yoshi does his best to keep any signs of it off his face, keeping in on in place.

"Nothing quite as dramatic Taicho-sama." Rank was a little sketchy, but that seemed a decent guess. "It seemed prudent to free as many assets before my arrival. I hope that the difference in quality of service for you makes up for any delay. Shall I begin to acquire some bartering items for us to broker during the march? As we move deeper, we may encounter regions where barter will matter more than coin with the coming harvest."

It was an idea for Karen to possibly steal which was fine by him. He had no qualms bargaining with peasants.

There was a sharply appraising glance, followed by a small nod.

"That is prudent, Yashi-san." she agrees. "Of course, you will need to both extensively document all such transactions, as well as provide an executive summary of said records. We'll need to be able to know where any particular item is at a moment's notice."

This was followed by a small shrug.

"You know how it is, in an army on the march, after all, sometimes things go missing if not carefully watched. A chicken flies off, a general's broth lacks an egg, the accusations start flying and then...well..."

She offers him a smile which shows teeth but not warmth.

"We wouldn't want a bright young Tortoise hung over an egg, now would we?"

Yoshi could distinctly get the feeling that Karen would not only be delighted to see him hung over an egg, she'd probably sell tickets.

"Oh, perish the thought Taicho" Yoshi makes a point of visibly shuddering. "I must applaud you Taicho, I never never served under a Logistics Chief do dedicated to exacting paperwork. The last thing I'd want is to have such an incident embarrass you. I can't imagine how damaging even the insinuation of graft would be to your reputation"

Once again, all perfectly true statements: She did have the benefit of being the only Logistics Chief he had ever served under, true but Yoshi certainly did not wish to be held responsible for anything of that nature, and indeed any insinuation that his boss had been anywhere near the involvement of corruption could disgrace her.

"I shall ensure that the expenditure of my personal funds of supplies for the army are dutifully recorded. In fact, your wisdom will actually increase my chances of reimbursement, not that I believe it will be necessary. And following your example, I will make sure to document all supplies I receive for my Kaisha and have that countersigned by whomever of your assistants is fortunate enough to have had the task delegated to. You are an example to us all Taicho " Yoshi bows again.

Say what you would about Karen (though not while she could hear it), but it WAS possible to meet her standards...at least for awhile.

Karen nodded.

"Good, did you have anything else to report to me at this time, Kasuga-san?" she asked out of Duty.

Not the warmest response, but one that gave the Kasuga a little bit of freedom.

"No at the present time Taicho, though please inform me to f there are any particular items that I should be aware to look for. Both in terms of army demands...or items that you may personally require. I understand there are practical limitations, but small windfalls often have an effect on morale."

She seemed like a hard superior to please, and their interactions may be fraught, but the Yoshi charm sometimes had its way of working.

Karen gave Yoshi a thoughtful frown.

"I doubt there is anything you can get for me personally, Kasuga-san." she said, somewhat irritated at the implication that she needed anything from HIM. "However, should your duties bring you into contact with anyone connected with producing the highest quality sake, I would be interested in speaking with them. But only if it's the highest quality sake, Kasuga-san, I don't want to be bothered with every soldier with a mouthful of rice and dream of one day being drunk on duty. Understand, Kasuga-san?"

"Understood Taicho! I will stay observation. Then, by your leave?" Yoshi bows, awaiting dismissal.

A curt, almost impatient nod.

"Dismissed, Kasuga-san." she offers, quite ready for the Tortoise to be somewhere else.
