Pathfinder (No, not that one) (Day 1, Goat/MA)

While Mukai would certainly apply herself to the best of her ability towards all of the duties required for the mustering reporting to Hiruma-sama was certainly the one she felt most applicable to her skill set.

Nor did she fail to demonstrate that she was, indeed, valuable in such endeavors. There was some stress surrounding such an important showing, sure, but nothing unmanageable.

(D1, Goat - Muster Event Intelligence: Skullduggery/Water, Expert Tracker applies, TN reduced by 1 if mount is applicable (School ability) | TN: 2 | Success: 3 / Opportunity: 0 / Strife: 2

I'll go ahead and say it does this time.

“As it happens, a merchant in a local, ahhh, commercial establishment told me that his caravan had recently arrived from the south,” Nobu recalled. “He mentioned the road conditions were a bit muddy from the recent rains. I hope that’s of some help.”

The conversation had been after a couple bottles of sake, but the large Crane decided it would be more tactful to omit that fact from his report.

Coded messages, delicate delivery, understanding subtle signals. It was all going wrong. Interestingly, while the Scorpion are very good at the intelligence game, if you aren't part of that life, dealing with other organization's intelligence practices can be a little aggravating.

"Oh, how do I know we'll be passing through Kohaku Mura? Who can say, maybe it was evident..heh...i mean it's right in our path isn't it? No, of course not, taisa, I couldn't see the documents you had laid out on your table in the open. Did you know these dead eyes are near sighted? Yes, i'll take this dispatch immediately and be out of your sight."

Being a Scorpion also gets you pegged as a spy no matter what you do. Hikimasu hurried out to do the job he was given.

OOC
Success! +2 strength, also 5 strife, which i'll remove one of with an opportunity.

Though somewhat unfamiliar with the route of march, Hametsu was an expert on the legion itself. His comprehensive knowledge of the regulations (both ancient and modern) related to the running of the legion, and who among the legionnaires found themselves most and least suited to them, proved of excellent service to the Intelligence Chief. In this way, problems could be nipped in the bud, future inefficiencies could be mitigated, and the occasional malingerer (there are some in every army) could be corrected before they became a true issue.

Event 1, Part 3 (Intelligence Chief) | TN: 2 | Success: 4 / Opportunity: 1 / Strife: 2

+2 Strength
Using the 1 opportunity to negate the 2 strife.

"Why no, I don't know where that map came from. Maybe you'd better hang onto it, I'm certain you're better-apprised than I am, Hiruma-sama."

Hayabe finished giving his report.

"Forgive my impertinence -sama but if I may add, it would be of great benefit to the scout corps if we could receive word of our marching path as early as possible."

He bowed and then offered up a small stack of parchment squares.

"I have roughly mapped out the area I scouted, once we know where to focus the information will be greater."

He bowed again, touching his head to the floor in apology for his presumptive speech before leaving when permitted.

Apparently, wondering aloud about some of the medical and supply train order that didn't seem as efficient as it could be was considered prying into something, something...operational security...whatever. Mari wasn't particularly pleased by the (distracted and thus short) chiding, but hanging around the area, you couldn't help but overhear things.

After Hayabe was excused, a familiar pair of dead eyes were found facing the Crane. "Good afternoon, Daidoji-san", Hikimasu said with a bow. "It seems signals is bustling today. Hopefully Hiruma-sama is well informed for the road ahead."

The assembled legion was abuzz with conversation. It was impolite to eavesdrop, of course, but some things were impossible not to hear. That was especially true, if one joined in the conversation.

Edogawa had joined in many conversations today. There had been a few revelations in those discussions. The ones that seemed useful were passed along to Hiruma Akako.

"That is my duty and prayer Shosuro-san." The crane says returning the bow, his face still flush from his perceived overstep gave him the appearance of someone who had been burned. "How does this day find you?"

"I would prefer it lose me, but I imagine there will still be plenty to do into the evening", he said smoothly, then sighed very slightly. "It seems they may wish to depart sooner rather than later."

"If the Crab are in need of aid we should not delay. Will we take the Pass, will we take the coast, that seems to be all that is left to decide and it is a critical one."

"The pass this time of year can bring a chill", he noted thoughtfully. "Though likely not as stormy as the coast, I would guess. What does your knowledge of Crane lands say?"

"The chill can be an issue but the journey itself is pleasant and Crane hospitality is well known. I am certain the Scorpion would do no less but my concern is the Shinomen; it is an unknown to me." Hayabe's posture echoed his words as he the ideas in his head caused him to tense.

"Well, yes, let's not talk about Shinomen Mori, it is a silly place."

Hayabe grimaced at the Scorpion's evasion. "If that is the path we take I hope you will share what you know with command. Both our clans have good reason not to want a massive army marching through their lands but once we start marching the only thing that should matter is the march; getting to the wall quickly and safely."

"Certainly", Hikimasu nodded with a slight bow. "Though there is a lot of open territory between the woods and Scorpion lands. Ginasutra sits on the border, but in truth it's much further away. The last bit of Amatarsu's light lands on Seido Osano-Wo, on the Plain of Thunder. The forest is beyond that, and consequently, it is the thinnest portion of the forest." He tapped his chin a bit. "A cousin of mine lives in Ginasutra, but she doesn't visit the forest often. No one really does unless it is their duty, but it isn't in my lord's domain, hence why it's not spoken of much."

"I see, I may have underestimated the distance between the lands of the Scorpion and the forests boundaries, thank you for enlightening me." He said with no hint of sarcasm. "We'll have enough reasons to watch the shadows."
