Having finished her stint playing doctor, Otomo Hana went to something that was perhaps a little more to her taste. Gather information about the Legion to assess it's strengths and weaknesses? So a gossip session then?

2 successes, opportunities used to cancel strife

"Ok, so I know the regent is busy, and needs the best Scorpion around the capital, but they really sent some dregs to the Legion, Hiruma-sama." she said, her fan showing the chrysanthemum mon out as one would do in court.

"First there's Shosuro Hikimasu, you can just feel his creepy dead fish gaze undressing the any samurai-ko unlucky enough to cross his path. And his wife, Shosuro Kheree is here, and rather than keep her husband in check, she's ALSO ogling any samurai-ko unluck enough to cross HER path."

She leaned in.

"Oh and don't get me started on that mega creep, Yogo Adoka. He's either staring into space or into the bottom of a sake bottle, and as for Yogo Osamu, oh let me tell you...."


It was, perhaps a somewhat non-traditional intelligence report, but it did give command some idea where bouts of drama might flare up if not carefully watched.

Having given her report, Hana looked about the tent for someone interesting. Sadly, most people were in such a hurry with the imminent march. But there was ONE hare who was running just a little bit slower than the rest. Her senesei would have classified him as thick of head and of limb, ie unable to carry on a conversation and would run off at a moment's notice to avoid one. But there were many hardships one encountered on the march, having to make do with poor conversation partners was just one of them.

She thought to signal him with her fan, but assuming he'd just ignore it, she went the more direct route of simply walking directly into his path.

She gave him her best looking of delighted suprise.

"Ah, Usagi-san!" she exclaimed. "Just the soldier I was looking for. I realize you are busy as we all are with our duties, but I needed to gather some information from you, if you could please spare me a few minutes?"

You know how it is, with a group this large and varied and the rush of deployment, errors sometimes rear their head and then you'd got Akodo Ai, reknowned tactician, chopping vegetables and Akodo Aiko, reknowned chef, being called upon to lead a charge."

She favored him with a brief smile.

"Though given how few the Hare are in the Emerald Legions, I would wager that's not often a problem with you. Have you been serving in the Legion long?"

You could almost hear the brushstrokes of the information being recorded: New to the legion, midnight watches, can't tell time. Actually, you COULD hear brushstrokes, but that was from someone writing down orders nearby that had nothing to do with the Hare and his reponses....probably.

Hana nodded sympathetically.

"A difficult, if necessary duty for which those of us visiting Yume-do are undoubtful grateful, Usagi-san. Do you find yourself well suited to it? Is it similar to the posting you had prior to your posting with the legion? Ah, and where were you posted prior to your service with the Legion?" she said.

"It's better than many duties I've had. Just means I sleep before everyone else. And if I raise an alarm, got a whole Legion around me to handle it. That much support is... new."

It was certainly a beautiful face. It was also the face of a well schooled courtier which gave away nothing but a look of courteous attention. How genuine that was was certainly impossible to guage without further discussion.

Hana nodded.

"Indeed. I've heard that voiced as a concern by others Usagi-san. The general is, of course, well trained in the tatics of the Lion clan, which favors large forces working in a well ordered harmony. However, everyone is here for a reason, and as long as orders flow smoothly from command to commander things should work as intended, assuming discipline is maintained."

She looked at him curiously.

"Speaking of commanders, have you gotten to know your own particularly well, Usagi-san? Perhaps they have given you some insight into the road ahead and how they intend to best utilize your background?"

That brought a small smile to the Otomo's face.

"Well, as quick as the Hare are reputed to be, Usagi-san, I did not think you were likely to keep pace with the famed steeds of the Unicorn, though you do seem like a man who would at least attempt to do so if ordered to." she said, picturing a very sour Hare cursing as he ran through a dust storm.

"However, I would have assued that Usagi-san would be called upon to go where horses struggle to do so. Fast as they are, I'm not familiar with stories of the steeds of the Unicorn climbing trees or swimming through the oceans...though I suppose if I asked a Unicorn, they might give me a tale of such." she said, considering.

"Although, I am not terribly familiar with the lands of the Hare, so I could not say for certain if Usagi-san has much experience with climbing or swimming either. How sure of a climber would you rate yourself, Usagi-san? How swift a swimmer?"

"And horses can be pretty good swimmers. Strong, for one thing. Although yes, as climbers, they leave something to be desired."

Older brother is Daigoro, older sister is Sumiko, then me, then my brother Saburo- hasn't passed his gempukku yet- and then my twin little sisters Mei and Rei. No wife as of yet, but negotiations are proceeding apace. Well. Assuming I survive this, of course. Naturally, no children."
