As the journey progressed, and Osamu's feelings of success in helping the legion spawned an ever greater desire to help, he found himself combining tasks. Sometimes in... ambitious ways.
It wasn't that the young Scorpion didn't have medical knowledge to share, and certainly the steady and supportive gait of his steed meant that he needed to pay little attention to the trail they were following. But many a sideways glance fell upon the shugenja who, head bowed and bobbing slightly in his saddle, was adding annotations to legion medical protocols as the rest of the kaisha marched around him. The rather meek Yogo might have suffered some distress at the attention be was getting, but he was highly focused on his important work.

Dusting off her hands after a fruitless attempt at finding any useable roots beneath a hoof-and-foot-trampled vervaine*, Mari rejoins the column and notices the sedate steed and focused rider. Ribbons limp in the humid air, she marches alongside for a moment, fairly sure she'd seen this one working in the medical tents at a shift crossing or three. Watching the column part and move past the exceptionally steady pony was amusing, but...Yogo Osamu wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 2:44 amAs the journey progressed, and Osamu's feelings of success in helping the legion spawned an ever greater desire to help, he found himself combining tasks. "Not to interrupt Scorpion-san, but you'll be falling back behind the wagons as the next hour rolls around, and they can't shift around as easy as the lot of us on foot." Her tone's cheerful with friendly warning. "I know it won't do your handwriting any favors, but your pony might want to step up a bit faster."

The horse, who a close observer might swear narrowed his eyes at the Phoenix as his speed was questioned, snorted loudly. He did not toss his head, as might be expected, but returned to watching his path and walking steadily on.Isawa Mari wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 4:39 amDusting off her hands after a fruitless attempt at finding any useable roots beneath a hoof-and-foot-trampled vervaine*, Mari rejoins the column and notices the sedate steed and focused rider. The rider, who seemed to be barely drawn from his work by human words, took more notice as his steed reacted to the Phoenix and he belatedly seemed to realize he was in a conversation.
"Hm? Er, uh. Oh! Hmm. It appears Satoshi-san is holding back," Osamu chuckles a little at the realization. "Sato-kun," he says quietly, as he strokes the horse's neck. "You are being too nice. We need to move at our military speed." He patted the horse's neck - this time it tossed its head in seeming annoyance - then looked back to the other shugenja.
"Thank you, uh, Isawa... sama?" He seemed to be making an educated guess based on her kimono. "This one is Yogo Osamu. And this one is Satoshi-san, a most noble steed."

She pauses to offer a bow at the introduction, catching back up with a couple longer strides. "Honored to meet you, Yogo-san. I'm Isawa Mari...and it's san, please, we're all pretty far down the command line here, I think." After a moment, she adds something more like a nod to Satoshi, who seems to be a brighter than average pony. "And greetings to Satoshi-san as well. I imagine he's sparing your writing, neh? I know it's rough enough to keep things legible on a wobbly camp table."Yogo Osamu wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:15 pmThe horse, who a close observer might swear narrowed his eyes at the Phoenix as his speed was questioned, snorted loudly. Gesturing to the scroll in his hand, she asks, "recording the terrain?" It had been fairly dull terrain, which was normal. The graceful lines of Kyuden Doji, that shrine to Inari with remarkably complex woodcarving all over it a few villages back, and one very carefully tended maple in fall color to rival that in the mountains, were standouts among the passing fields, rice paddies, and forested spaces.
