Despair and Wisdom: Imperial March

Yoshi had spent a good chunk of dragging a mostly insensate bandit that he had clubbed over to the Intelligence group, so it takes him a minute to rejoin the 4ths tent area. For a terrifying moment the idea occurs to him that his new comrades might have been hurt or worse.

And to think that I felt bad for the toothless bastard for half a second. Huh, that's a new reaction. How'd you care so much?

"How are we doing everyone?" He calls out, dusting himself off and realizing there is blood on his robes.

Hametsu looked up from where he was carefully cleaning his boots, his expression neutral, as though combat had not ruffled his feathers in the least.

"None the worse for wear, Kasuga-san. Yourself?"

"Well, it doesn't make my top 10 best memories but I have to say" Yoshi lifts his Tetsubo and shows a few light practice swings "usually I don't give things the personal touch and I might have been missing out. That was rather bracing"

He puts down the blunt weapon. "But then I realized that you all were without me and undoubtedly craving my presence." He coughs and the bravado slips. "Do we know the damage yet?"

Hametsu began to scrub away at his boots again.

"I understand that some equipment has been misappropriated, though a number of enemy combatants have been captured, with others driven off. Greed is a poor substitute for discipline, morale-wise." He looked up. "Was this your first engagement?"

The Hida took out the arrow in her armor. "Just a flesh wound here." The girl sighed. She had to replace the ceramic tiles of where the arrow broke through.

"It wasn't my first scrap. Fortunes know I've been in those." Yoshi hesitates a beat. "But in places where a magistrate or superior could, in theory, swoop in if the situation escalated. This was working without the guide"

Yoshi's usual demeanor returns. "Let me know if you need any help getting you out of your armor or binding you up.Im not trained but I'm an enthusiastic volunteer"

"Ah, hai..." Yoshiko just rubbed her arm. "How about you?" She saw the blood on his armor.

Edogawa was nearby, cleaning his blade. "I am fine."

The comment he'd made had at least a bit of an undertone. Saying yes would usually indicate interest in exploring some things further, only Yoshiko showed no enthusiasm. No, that wasn't right, she was too distracted.

"Oh, I'm fine. Running on panic and fury and likely to collapse if I stop moving but physically never better."

He edges a little closer and drops his voice, his eyes flickering back to the Doji and Kitsuki. Yoshiko-san, do you..need someone to talk to? I promise, discretion is vital for me. Whatever you would like to say if anything He puts a finger to his lips

"I... I am fine Kasuga san." She kept up her serious demeanor. "May be tomorrow we can talk." Her voice quite somber and lacked its usual pep. "I hope we have enough supplies to keep up our march."

"Supplies? I wouldn't worry too much about that. That's why you all suffer having me around, isn't it?" Yoshi's tone is playful, but soft. "Making up the gap on things like that is where my skills lie."

He pauses for a beat. "We don't need to talk" To his own surprise, the words come out without a hint of smarm, where usually that's where he would have laid it on. "If you want someone to...just sit and be there, I'll be up awhile. If not, well, I'll pester than smile back tomorrow"

It's not much, but however Yoshiko responds, Yoshi spends time attempting to console and calm those affected.

Turning his attention back to his boots, Hametsu puts in the extra effort to make them not only clean, but inspirationally shiny. And then he turned his attention to his armor and clothing. By the end of his attentions, during which he painstakingly removed every speck of trail dust and restored his ensemble such that it seemed almost new, he had becoming the embodiment of the grooming standard.

Hametsu blinked. "Thank you, Hida-san. I do try to make a point of keeping everything as it should be. One cannot expect others to adhere to regulations if one does not does so one's self."

"I guess we should improve on vigilance and keep up a good defence." The Hida analyzed.
