(D7, ME) A very special tour (Closed)

Troops that step out of line or that begin to show the signs of losing more than their lives to the True Enemy are confined here with varying degrees of severity. It is not a place open to casual inspection. It is not a place in which a person ought to want to find themself.

Yasu nodded.

"Ah well then, I suppose that is all I need to know, Usagi-san. I would say I shouldn't doubt Kuni-san's assessments, but if I did not check everything twice, would I really be a Kuni?" he says.

Yasu put his scroll away.

"As a host, I feel like I am expected to let you ask any questions before we proceed, but you already seem to have decided you have all the answers you need. Still, as you like to try and prove me wrong, I can offer you the opportunity." he said, throughly convinced by the Hare that the other Kuni's assessment of the Hare's unsuitability was correct.

"Answers?"

He snorted.

"I don't even know the questions. I just try to do the best I can with what I've got. I'm sorry if the way I express that flies in Kuni-sama's face. I was ordered here. Having been ordered here, I'll do my best. If I have to do from the other side of the wall, well, that certainly limits my usefulness, but you and yours are the experts. If that's where you put me, that's where I go. I haven't asked to be put here. I haven't directly objected to your colleague's assessment. If you feel you've wasted your time, again, I am sorry."

Yasu shook his head.

"Oh no, Usagi-san, you misunderstand. You passed the test of Jade, and really that's the one that matters. Even if you hadn't, the severity of the problem barrelling towards us might've seen you loaded into a catapult just to buy us a few more seconds." Yasu said.

"We are not Kakita, Usagi-san," he said tapping his mon. "We did not expect the capital to send us a Legion of perfect warriors who would effortlessly face the horrors of the Shadowlands while punching the Dark One himself."

He started walking again.

"It was never a pass/fail test. Rather one of triage. Those you have dissmissed as unworthy, but we have passed, have passed because they are less at risk. They've got some combination of knowledge, willingness to learn, ability to work as a team, and reason to fight that will mean they will overall fare better. Oh yes, a great many of them will die, and some score will be corrupted. That is simply the price of warfare against the Enemy. But given we don't have roughly a decade to train them as proper Crab, they will have to serve."

He looked back over at the Usagi.

"You, on the other hand, Usagi-san, have none of that. You don't know what's waiting out there for you, argue against anything we try to tell you, openly despise the people you've had an entire march from the capital to get to know, and when asked why you will fight, you say 'Duty' with the dedication and conviction of a beached goldfish." he listed off on his fingers.

Another shrug.

"Still, as I said, we do not have the luxury of turning away whatever possible aid you might be. So you will fight in the shadow of the Wall, Usagi-san. However, I rate your odds of survival as roughly equivalent of said beached goldfish. A pity for your parents and Tonbo-san, but perhaps they will be better off without you. As for my time, well Kuni-san would have called it a waste if I just sat you in a room and had tea with you. But I have to walk these rounds anyways, and if I could spend that time trying to do anything I could to increase your odds of success and therefore buy the Wall even a moment more, I would say that isn't a waste at all."

As Yasu finished his 'The Reason You Suck' speech the tour arrived back at the starting point.

"I believe you can find your way to your tent from here, Usagi-san. Try to die somewhere convenient, I have a feeling you would make for a terribly annoying zombie."

He simply smiled blandly at the Kuni.

"It never ceases to amaze me how I can speak plainly and still be so misunderstood. Carry the Fortunes, Kuni-sama."
