(Day 5 LM/Serpent) Patient Conference

(expecting)
A leave day was a good time to pause and catch up on tasks (it wasn't as if the medical cadre would have a complete leave, given the folks likely to injure themselves while out celebrating.) And so, Mari, soberly leaving aside most of her ribbons (though they still flutter from her pinned up hair), waits outside of her superior's office with a minor report and some questions.

"Isawa-san, please come in," comes Undomiei's voice. "Have you eaten rice today?"

"Isawa-san, please come in," comes Undomiei's voice. "Have you eaten rice today?"
Mari enters and bows deeply before answering. "Oh definitely. Good thing too, with that whole _attack_ at the bridge to assist with!" The humor in her tone makes mention of an attack less concerning than it might have been, even less so if one had already seen the cheerful games at the bridge already.
"I hope you've done as well for the morning," she pauses, "and that we're not seeing too many come to the healer's tents with festival-related injuries."

"I have, thank you," Undomiei replies, having returned the bow. "And, in something of a miracle," he continues, "nobody's yet come in with injuries requiring attention. I do believe I will have the hangover cures ready to hand tomorrow morning, however. How are your supplies of willow bark?"

"Harvested a bit when we crossed he river a few days back. I think we'll be in decent shape for it, and watchful for folks falling into the river." She pauses to add, "been inventorying ginger against the autumn chill, but I suppose we're going to be far enough south not to worry overmuch about that."
"Regardless, I used a bit of the morning to finish up." A scroll was pulled from her sleeve and passed over in both hands. It certainly could have been left with someone to deliver.
There was an awkward pause before Mari took a deep breath, twisting the edge of her sleeve in nervous fingers and said, "there's also been some rumors of Mirumoto-rikugunshokan seeming unwell....um, not sure if that's actually the case or something that ought to be quashed as we get closer to things..." She trailed off a bit, feeling it all a bit silly said out loud like that. Probably silly. Just a rumor, right?

"I hadn't heard anything about the Rikugunshokan being unwell," Undomiei replies. "And I recently examined him. Standard procedure. I also examined my fellow taisa, as well as the chui."
He pauses.
"Perhaps you heard something about Mirumoto-chui?" Undomiei asks.

(Since the player utterly confused those...yep!)
"Oh! That's...um, very possible," she stammers. "Heard in passing and... um, is Mirumoto-chui unwell?" Racking her brain, she tries to recall if she's even seen that chui since they began this march.

"I'm not aware of it," Undomiei says. "What did you hear?"

"Nothing...solid, you understand. Maybe it was just rude chatter." Mari shakes her head slightly. "But that's not the usual way folks complain about their officers, usually. They make fun of their personalities, dress, accent, and how annoying the tasks they hand out are, even say that they're obviously crazy. But saying that they don't look well? that just seemed different."
(ooc...and, well, maybe a bit too on the nose now that we've hopped to a new day.)

"That does seem odd for soldiers' gossip," Undomiei agrees, nodding. "I will see if I can get him in for an assessment tomorrow; I do not think it will happen today."

(no..it definitely will not. XD)
Mari nodded. "Hopefully it's nothing but nervous recruits seeing shadows where none exist. I'm sure everyone's looking less than their best after this many days on the march. Folks are getting more nervous as we finally see Crab lands."

(Thought you'd appreciate that.)
"It's likely more the latter than the former," Undomiei replies, "although I will note that the Sixth has a higher ratio of, er, support staff than the other groups. That might have to do with it."

She considers that, and nods. "Few here were raised as the Crab, to approach that border without misgivings. Have to imagine that's even worse with the support staff."
"Thank you for hearing my concerns, Isawa-sama." Mari bows deeply.

"Of course, Isawa-san," Undomiei replies, bowing.
"Have you happened to look at the recent treatise by Isawa Hazama and Kuni Tsukemono, by any chance?"

"They were among those whose research you presented during the muster, no?" Mari tries to remember what those specific folks had researched. "Anatomy? I recall thinking it was a good effort for a topic difficult to pass along without a lot of illustrations or hands-on training...and the latter would be, hmm...difficult." Seeing as it would require poking around with cadavers...or in the living, which was probably worse.

"Indeed," Undomiei replies. "I hope you took notes; I expect we'll have cause to make use of them."
