On the near side of the river hard by the bridge stands a shrine to the bridge's spirit and to the memory of its builders and defenders. Like most Crab construction, it is solid and utilitarian, but it is clear that the Kaiu who designed it worked with love and appreciation on its walls and columns. It seems to ring with the intoned prayers of petitioners.
