Despair and Wisdom: Imperial March

Having seen the paperwork already, Isawa Undomiei waits.

Adoka preferred praying in the early morning but well he assumed that he was about to meet another servant of the kami. If he was to bet he would say firechicken.

He shrugged and tried to figure out how he was supposed to announce his presence. He did a circle around it while thinking about it.

It evidently makes enough noise to be detected.

Undomiei says "Enter, please."

That counted as an invitation, so he did enter. Seeing a firechicken of the correct family actually impressed him. These people might actually care.

He bowed.

"Apologies for intruding in your work space Isawa-sama. I believe my chui already informed you about my case."

"It's not an intrusion, Yogo-san," Undomiei responds.

He unrolls a scroll on a table near to hand. "Toritaka-chui did inform me of his concern for your well being," he says as he consults it. "Given what was in his report, I understand why. Talk of imaginary friends and traipsing about the encampment while underdressed, along with what he has and what I have in records about your previous experiences, do make an argument for a wellness check. And given that the Legion expects to face the forces of the Ninth Kami, stability is crucial."

The Isawa looks at Adoka. "There will be a verbal component to the examination and a physical. For the latter, I will have to examine your body. I understand your Clan's reticence to be completely bare, and I will respect it to the extent that I can do so and still perform my duties. You may refuse the examination, but be informed that doing so will be reported and that, given the nature of the Legion's current task, may prompt additional investigation of a not-entirely-medical nature.

"Please verbally indicate your assent to or refusal of the examination."

Here we go again. That's 13th time by now?

"I comply to both." He said.

"As for exposure of ones body, I am not sure why you were given that impression. I am pretty confident that we are quite lax in such matters. You prefer the verbal or the somatic component? Is there some ritual that would allow you to read my mind? It would be more efficient."

"Such a ritual might be more efficient," Undomiei agrees, "but it would also expose the reader to any problems inhering in the mind of the read. Given that the purpose of this examination is to determine if there is a problem requiring more specialized attentions, thus that the possibility exists that there is such a problem, such exposure is inadvisable.

"So much said, your assent is noted. And if it is the case that you are liberal with regard to uncovering yourself, please remove your mask. I will examine your head and its features first. You may afterwards resume your mask, and the physical examination will continue."

The Isawa peers intently at Adoka, already taking in abundant information.

He removed his mask and tried to be as cooperative as he could.

Undomiei is quick and thorough in examining the Yogo's head, looking for reactions to sensory stimuli and checking for scars and other evidence of head injury. At length, he says "You may resume your mask, Yogo-san," and he continues his physical examination, making several notes.

"I do notice some evidence of head injuries," he adds. "How were they acquired?"

"It encountered a large blunt instrument." He replied and smirked as he put on his mask.

"I felt in coma for a while. Since then I have extreme headaches, sleep pattern irregularities, blanks in my memory and an ancestor screaming in my head to find him his skull..." He shrugged.

"I suppose I can now move to the drugs I use or you assume on your own?"

"Your medical interventions went directly to drugs?" Undomiei asks, somewhat taken aback.

That was almost offensive.

"I would never dare to self-medicate. My sensei oversaw personally that my treatment includes acupuncture, various herbal convictions, opioids and lots of meditation."

Was that a hint of her true colors? Was she one of them?

"Who's your sensei?" Undomiei asks as he continues to make notes. "And when was the last time prior to today your treatment regimen was reassessed?"

"My sensei reevaluated me about a season prior to my departure from the City of Stories and then again at my departure." He responded.

"My current treatment is supposed to assist me with the change of environment, but honestly the drugs don't work."

"If you have a list of the medications, I can reference and see if any adjustments will assist," Undomiei says. He adds "But, again, who was your sensei? If I recognize the name, I likely will know some of his methodologies and can possibly address some of the issues involved."

"Apologies." He nodded.

"My sensei is Shoshi Taiyou, Keeper of Amaterasu Seido at the City of Stories." He added.

"In case we are on the oral part, do you mind if I smoke some herbs?"

From his satchel he provided a list of his treatment.

"Those with a middle line ain't commonly available outside of the City of Stories. The alternatives to them are noted next to them."

The list consisted of various base or supplementary herbs and drinks plus a couple of opioids. The various acupuncture and meditation techniques, he should follow are also noted.

"In case that there is any ciphered instructions that I failed to recognise, I apologise in advance for my failure and I would appreciate it if you gave me the luxury to continue in my ignorance."

"If you can delay the smokables, please," Undomiei says as he consults the list.

"I'd expect the acupuncture has been a challenge to address on the march."

"Not really." He answered but regretted the words immediately. He couldn't talk to her how he does it on his own with the assistance of his shikigami.

"My raven is trained to assist me." He gave a less ridiculous explanation.

Undomiei pauses.

"I wasn't aware the Kitsune gave guest lectures among the Yogo," he says. "But the lack of thumbs seems it would be a problem for the bird."

"It has a bick." He countered and smiled.

"Isawa-sama, I know it's a ridiculous answer, but I would appreciate it, if you just accepted that I need no assistance on this matter. I have arrangements that make it more easy than you can probably imagine."
